The following information was provided by Howie Kolhoff Invitational Committee Member Kim Rote regarding the 2020 event. We encourage SDHSBA bowlers to participate in this annual event.
Entries are now being accepted for the 2020 Howie Kolhoff Invitational. The event will be held the weekend of February 29 & March 1 at Eastway Bowl in Sioux Falls, SD.
Attached for your convenience are the entry form and tournament rules for the 7th Annual Howie Kolhoff Invitational.
Highlights for the 2020 event:
- Entry fee is $150. All entries due February 7, 2020
- Two Shifts available ~ 8am and 12pm (8am shift must be filled prior to opening 12pm shift)
- Handicap event – 90% of 210 based on confirmed average (see rules related to what average to report)
- Open to Middle/High school USBC sanctioned bowlers (unsanctioned bowlers may be sanctioned at event)
- 3 game qualifier on Saturday with double elimination Baker match play on Sunday
- All-Tournament Team honors
- Top 24 boys/coed teams and top 8 girls teams qualify for Sunday match play
- Top qualifying team in each division awarded scholarship money
- $6,000 scholarship money awarded based on minimum 40 team enrollment
Completed entries will be accepted on a first come/first serve basis. Participating schools may enter multiple teams based on tournament rules, but each bowler may only compete on one team.
All teams should select their preferred qualifying shift on their entry form. When more than 32 entries are received, teams originally requesting 12pm shift will be contacted by tournament committee and given first opportunity to change to the 12pm shift.
The safety of our youth bowlers is important to us. While coaches are not required for a team to compete in this event, we have adopted the USBC standards in requiring all coaches to be registered volunteers (with USBC or other youth organizations) and SafeSport certified. Coaches not meeting the required qualifications may still consult with team from spectators’ area but will not be allowed in the bowlers’ area during competition. Qualifications will be validated at team check in. Any questions can be directed to the tournament committee at bowlhowie@yahoo.com.
With the 2020 event we are happy to announce the 1st Annual Howie Kolhoff Singles Sweeper! This is a singles event open to all middle school and high school bowlers. This event will take place Saturday, February 29 at 4pm. Here are a few highlights for this event:
- Entry fee is $40
- Limited to 64 bowlers
- Open to Middle School and High School USBC sanctioned bowlers (unsanctioned bowlers may be sanctioned at event)
- Bowlers do not have to registered for team event to participate in singles event
- 3 game qualifier with top 12 advancing to mini eliminator
- Top 5 automatically advance to knock out matches
- Handicap event – 90% of 210 based on confirmed average (please see entry form for what average to report)
- $500 payout for 1st place with top 12 receiving scholarship money based on 64 entries
As with past events we will host an on-site raffle benefitting the scholarship fund, lunch and dinner specials, event t-shirt, hotel discounts, and much more.

All unsanctioned bowlers will be required to complete a sanction registration form at check in. A $4 sanction fee will be required.
